Beard oil is typically made from all natural ingredients coming from nuts and seeds; popular ingredients come from jojoba, argan and sweet almond. As a rule of thumb, the more expensive the oil the more ingredients it will contain.
Oils can be infused with scent to help leave the beard smelling nice. Popular scents are cedarwood, citrus and sandalwood but brands are getting creative with their ingredients and scents are becoming very creative.
What Does Beard Oil Do?
Beard oils are applied to help condition and protect the hair / skin. Dependant on the ingredients used they can help with post shave rashes, fight acne, soften hair and treat flakey skin. Many men complain of itchy beard after around 4 weeks of growth, beard hair is usually coarse and as the hair grows it causes irritation to the skin. Applying beard oil helps to reduce the irritation by moisturising skin and softening the hairs.
How To Apply Beard Oil?
It is best to apply beard oil after washing your face. The hot water opens hair follicles and skin pores allowing the oil to have full effect.
- Put a small amount of oil in the palm of your hand
- Rub your hands together, spreading the oil evenly
- Massage the oil into your beard in a circular motion
